2020 marks the 60th anniversary of the initial release of Alfred Hitchcock's classic Psycho (watch it HERE), one of the greatest horror films of all time. To celebrate the occasion, Hungarian filmmaker Végh Vozó Zoltán decided to make a shot-for-shot recreation of the famous shower scene – but he didn't just pull a Gus Van Sant here. What makes this recreation special is the fact that there are 60 different actresses in this three minute clip that only involves two characters. A different actress plays each character in every shot, even if only their hand is shown. That's why the video embedded above is over eight minutes long. The credits are longer that the shower scene itself.
This was a fun little experiment that's worth taking a look at. The video below gives a behind the scenes glimpse at the making of the recreation.
Based on a novel by Robert Bloch, the original Psycho was directed by Hitchcock from a screenplay by Joseph Stefano. The film has the following synopsis:
Phoenix secretary Marion Crane, on the lam after stealing $40,000 from her employer in order to run away with her boyfriend, Sam Loomis, is overcome by exhaustion during a heavy rainstorm. Traveling on the back roads to avoid the police, she stops for the night at the ramshackle Bates Motel and meets the polite but highly strung proprietor Norman Bates, a young man with an interest in taxidermy and a difficult relationship with his mother.
Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, John Gavin, Vera Miles, and Martin Balsam star.
