The legendary daywalker played by Wesley Snipes may stalk the undead once again; the actor revealed to The Huffington Post that his ongoing conversations with Marvel have "been good." Earlier this summer Wesley Snipes first met with Marvel regarding a return to his famous role and it seems as though those talks have continued.
While Blade's return is nowhere near set in stone, the actor seemed optimistic that Marvel may resurrect the character:
There's always a possibility, you know. It's in Marvel's hands. They're controlling the pace and the flow with that. Conversations have been good. They see the value in it. We see the value in it, I'm still in shape enough and fit enough to handle the role. We'll see how it goes. I don't really know what's going to happen to it yet.
With Wesley Snipes ready and willing to continue with the character, I really do hope that Marvel jumps on this before its too late. Of the three films in the pre-existing BLADE franchise, you've got two good ones and one…not so good, but even it has a few bright spots (only a few mind you, but…they're there, hidden amongst the drivel), so I'd like to believe that the series still has some life in it. I suppose it's just a question of exactly how Blade would fit into the MCU, but in a universe of super-soldiers, talking raccoons, magical stones, and omnipotent beings, would a few vampires running around really be so strange? To that end, Snipes was asked if he'd be into Blade joining up with The Avengers:
That would be interesting. I mean, I know it's in the comic book. It would be interesting to see where they would place him and where he really would fit in, he's got to bite somebody. I don't know who he's going to bite.
Even if Blade doesn't end up headlining his own film (or TV series), there's always the chance that he may pop up in the rumoured film about his 16 year old daughter. Films in which a popular character passes the torch to a younger counterpart haven't always been successful, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see what Marvel has planned. Sound off in the comments; how would you like Blade to return and if he does, how would he fit in with the rest of the MCU?
