It truly is the gift that keeps on giving. Deadline reports that after seeing strong VOD returns from last year’s one night stand of terror, CONTRACTED, IFC Midnight is moving forward with a sequel, CONTRACTED: PHASE II. Newcomer Josh Forbes will direct from a script by first-timer Craig Walendziak, which pretty much picks up right where the first film left off.
You know, I almost liked CONTRACTED. I was into it all the way up until the last 20 minutes or so when this dude—SPOILERS—basically started banging a corpse. I get it, Najarra Townsend is gorgeous and all, but you can't tell me this guy didn't realize he was basically having sex with a dumpster. I don't give a rat's bleeding ass how much you liked this chick, man, you just don't do that. Not only that, but the only reason he stops is because maggots start falling out of her V. Even if the room was completely dark and maybe, just maybe, he didn't notice that her face looked like something out of a Romero flick, you can't tell me he didn't pick up on that wonderful smell of decaying flesh. So yeah, that part annoyed me.
The sequel continues where CONTRACTED left off…
…as newly-infected Riley (Matt Mercer) scrambles to track down those responsible for the outbreak and discovers a larger conspiracy that threatens to infect the world.
Eric England, who wrote and directed the first film, is not involved with the sequel. CONTRACTED co-stars Matt Mercer and Alice MacDonald are back, joined by Peter Cilella, Marianna Palka, Morgan Peter Brown, Laurel Vail, Anna Lore and Suzanne Voss in a follow-up that ups the ante and expands on the first film’s modestly scaled origins.
Sundance Selects/IFC Films’ Sean Berney negotiated the deal with Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films on behalf of the filmmakers. BoulderLight Pictures is handling international sales.
