In less than two weeks, OCULUS / HUSH / BEFORE I WAKE director Mike Flanagan's OUIJA prequel OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL will be reaching theatres with the hope of improving the reputation of this fledgling franchise. A couple quick clips from the film have arrived online, and while you can't discern how a full movie will play just based on a couple minutes of footage, these clips do make ORIGIN OF EVIL look very promising.
In the first clip, contact is made with a presumably evil spirit, and in the second a bully has the tables painfully turned on him. And who doesn't like to see a bully get what's coming to them?
A lot of this film's effectiveness seems to rest on actress Lulu Wilson's ability to be extremely creepy, and it definitely looks like she can handle that direction quite well. So well, in fact, that Universal brought her creepiness into the real world to play a prank on an audience of very jumpy fans for a video I have also included below.
Writing OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL, Flanagan teamed with Jeff Howard to tell the story of what happens when
a widowed mother and her two daughters add a new stunt to bolster their séance scam business and unwittingly invite authentic evil into their home. When the youngest daughter is overtaken by the merciless spirit, this small family confronts unthinkable fears to save her and send her possessor back to the other side.
Wilson's co-stars include Parker Mack, Kate Siegel, Sam Anderson, Henry Thomas, Elizabeth Reaser, Annalise Basso, and Doug Jones.
Universal will be releasing the Blumhouse / Platinum Dunes co-production on October 21, 2016.
