Move over, Daft Punk, because another mouse is officially in the house. Netflix and Constantin Film have announced that multi-award winning musical artist deadmau5 has been tapped to provide the score for director Jonas Åkerlund's POLAR, an adaptation of the noir Dark Horse Comics-published graphic novel series Polar: Came From the Cold. Created by Victor Santos, POLAR tells the story of Black Kaiser, the world's most deadly spy who's been ripped out of retirement by an assassination attempt. Not long into his new mission, Kaiser realizes that he's been set on a collision course with a stab-happy torture expert and a seductive but deadly redhead. His mission only ends if he dies or kills everyone out to get him, and he's not in the habit of dying.
Deadmau5, otherwise known as Joel Zimmerman, arrived on the music scene in 1998. As a Canadian electronic music producer, DJ, musician, and composer of anthems belonging to both the progressive house and electronic genres, Zimmerman has established himself as a spectacle of sound with an eye-popping visual show to match. With his iconic over-sized mouse head and precision decks, deadmau5 has been playing to sold out crowds while racking up countless awards for the past two decades. His contribution to POLAR will be his first feature film score debut.
well, the mouse is outta the bag,….working on my first film score for @constantinfilm @Netflix's #Polar. So in honor of @theofficialmads character, I'll be wearing an eyepatch the entire time #blackkaiser

Directing POLAR from a script penned by Jayson Rothwell (MALICE IN WONDERLAND) is Sweish filmmaker and drummer for the band Lord of Chaos, Jonas Åkerlund. Co-produced by both Constantin Film and Bolt Pictures, in association with Dark Horse Entertainment, POLAR is set to star HANNIBAL and DOCTOR STRANGE alum Mads Mikkelsen, who will be joined by Vanessa Hudgens (SPRING BREAKERS, POWERLESS), Katheryn Winnick (VIKINGS, THE DARK TOWER), Robert Maillet (PACIFIC RIM, SHERLOCK HOLMES), and Matt Lucas (ALICE IN WONDERLAND, DOCTOR WHO) for the stark and deadly noir.
Netflix plans to release POLAR globally in 2019, with exceptions being made for the regions of Canada, Germany, and China where Constantin Film will be in charge of distribution. For those of you who enjoy super spy noir drama, I highly recommend reading the Archaia-published graphic novel Butterfly. Created by Arash Amel and written by Marguerite Bennett with art by Antonio Fuso and Stefano Simeone, Butterfly is a dark thriller that explores the nature of family in the uncompromising world of global espionage. What It Is: Butterfly is one of Project Delta's deep cover agents, no birth certificate, no social security number, a complete ghost. When her cover is blown and she's set up for a murder she didn't commit, she is unknowingly led to her father's doorstep, a man she thought died 20 years ago. Trained to trust nothing and no one, Butterfly must decide whether to seek answers with the Project, or believe the man who betrayed her years ago.
