Constantin Film secures the rights to Danger Girl comic series

As studios continue to mine the comic book industry for new ideas, we've learned today that Constantin Film has secured the rights to DANGER GIRL, a 1996 comic book series created by writer Andy Hartnell and artist J. Scott Campbell.

Constantin Film will team with Jeremy Bolt's Bolt Pictures and Adrian Askarieh's Prime Universe Films to produce and develop a film and TV show based on the property. With that being said, this is far from the first time that DANGER GIRL has made the leap from a comic book page to other avenues of main stream media. In fact, if you were raised in the nineties, you may recall an onslaught of merchandise based on the comic by way of: video games, action figures, board games, and high-end collectibles.

In DANGER GIRL, we place boots on the ground as heroine and adventurer Abbey Chase. Reluctantly recruited by a secret spy organization, she teams with fellow operatives Sydney Savage and Natalia Kasstle to locate a series of mystical objects and keep them out of the hands of the criminal enterprise The Hammer Syndicate.

“Looking at Danger Girl’s lead character Abbey Chase and her posse of thrill-seeking femme fatales, female empowerment and wish fulfillment have never been more fun,” Kulzer said. 

Then adding to the chorus of excitement was Jeremy Bolt who added, “Danger Girl is the perfect opportunity to create a team of grounded, relatable, and dangerous young female characters, but with humor and spectacular action.”

Lastly, Adrian Askarieh had this to say about the forthcoming project, “I have been a fan of Danger Girl for more than 20 years and the idea of being part of the team to finally bring Scott’s and Andy’s iconic creation to the screen is incredibly exciting.”

Oh man, Abbey Chase is a hell of a character, and her partners Sydney Savage and Natalia Kasstle are just as deadly as she is. I would think that with its cards properly dealt (so to speak), DANGER GIRL has the potential to be a smash-hit in the vein of shows like ALIAS or even something along the line of an ATOMIC BLONDE triple threat. It could be that the TV show will end up looking like an espionage-oriented VERONICA MARS meets AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., to boot! We'll have to wait to find out, but for now, we can start speculating wildly as to who they'll cast as the show's trifecta of dangerous femme fatales.
