Confirmed: John Carpenter is composing the music for the new Halloween

Well, this has seemed like a given ever since the moment when it was first presented as a possibility – when you're making a new HALLOWEEN sequel and John Carpenter is offering to compose the score for it, you don't turn that offer down. 

It was a no-brainer decision, but Carpenter has been tempering expectations by saying things like he "might do the music" or would be doing the music, "I guess".

The official confirmation has now arrived, though. John Carpenter is composing the score for Blumhouse Productions' HALLOWEEN. This was confirmed on Twitter by producer Jason Blum, who answered the question "Can you confirm or deny if John Carpenter is providing the score for this film?" with "Confirm!"

So there we go.

Directed by David Gordon Green from a script he wrote with Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley, the new HALLOWEEN is ignoring the events of every film in the franchise except the 1978 original. That film's heroine Jamie Lee Curtis is back in the role of 

Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Also in the cast are Judy Greer as Laurie's daughter Karen; Andi Matichak as Karen's daughter Allyson; Miles Robbins, Virginia Gardner, Dylan Arnold, and Drew Scheid as Allyson's Haddonfield High classmates; Will Patton and Rob Niter as police officers; Rhian Rees as a character named Dana; and Diva Tyler as a caretaker; with stuntman James Jude Courtney and original Michael Myers performer Nick Castle both wearing the aged, wrinkled mask of the slasher. Blumhouse's HALLOWEEN arrives in theatres, complete with a Carpenter score, on October 19th.
