There were exactly two things I got from WonderCon’s panel of JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH 3D: the movie looks like crap, and Brendan Fraser is kind of a dumbass. Read on to find out why…
Featurette – Nothing interesting here. Just your run-of-the-mill promotional “making-of” documentary, featuring clips from the film and lots of interviews with cast/crew discussing what a great movie they made. There was a lot of wirework, bluescreens, and sequences featuring violent fish, dinosaurs, low gravity, glowing birds, venus fly traps, and lightning. In other words, every excuse possible to have whacked-out 3D effects.
- How smart is Brendan Fraser? Let’s find out!
- The film will be the first to be shot with James Cameron’s new Fusion camera system.
- Brendan Fraser unintentionally insulted the movie several times, explaining how the action set pieces were worked out first and the story and characters were basically just thrown in later, as well as saying how the film will act as a beta for future 3D movies. Sounds great, man. I’m dying to see it.
- Fraser just shot for 2 1/2 months in China for THE MUMMY 3.
- Wanna see 3D dino snot? JOURNEY’s got it.
- Fraser publicly apologized for MONKEYBONE. I guess he deserves a few points for that.
- The movie is very reminiscent to that of a theme park ride.
According to the filmmakers, JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH 3D has perfected a way to use its multidimensional effects without making audiences nauseous. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the film itself.
