We’ve seen some images of the cast for FOXCATCHER, a true crime film based on eccentric multimillionaire John duPont, who was convicted of murdering an Olympic wrestler, which show off stars Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, and Mark Ruffalo in a very different light and now we have a teaser trailer to see them come to life. Carell plays duPont, a sports enthusiast (amongst other things) who established a wrestling facility at his Foxcatcher Farm after becoming interested in the event. It was there that he formed a bond with Olympic wrestlers Dave Schultz (Ruffalo) and Mark Schultz (Tatum), a relationship that later turned sour and led to murder. The teaser is amazingly compelling and seeing Carell as a nearly unrecognizable character and playing against his usual type could spell a healthy awards season for the usually comedic actor.
Take a look:
Here’s the synopsis:
The story of Olympic Wrestling Champion Mark Schultz and how paranoid schizophrenic John duPont killed his brother, Olympic Champion Dave Schultz.
The film is directed by Bennett Miller, who has won much acclaim before with both MONEYBALL and CAPOTE. FOXCATHER looks to join those ranks as another intricate look at a real-life event and all its complexities. It seems like all the actors have gone against the grain for this and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. From the looks of the teaser, though, this one looks to be a dark horse that no one saw coming.
FOXCATCHER is set for release on December 20, 2013.
