Common set to join Suicide Squad

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

David Ayer may be busy filming SUICIDE SQUAD but that doesn't mean the casting process has ended; THR reported today that actor/musician Common has just closed a deal to join the film. Unfortunately that's where the information ends as we're given no indication on who his character could be.

It's interesting to note that way back in 2007 Common had actually been cast as Green Lantern in George Miller's Justice League film which, due to a series of setbacks including the writers-strike, Warner Bros. ended up pulling the plug on. Since then Common has been vocal about his desire for another shot at bringing the character to life; last week's rumour that DC is looking at John Stewart to take up the mantle of Green Lantern as opposed to Hal Jordan certainly gives us a little to speculate about in that regard. I'm just spitballing here but could DC give us our first look at Green Lantern in SUICIDE SQUAD?

Common, who is fresh off an Academy Award win for Best Song in SELMA, joins an already jammed-packed cast which includes Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis, Adam Beach, Ike Barinholtz, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Scott Eastwood, Jay Hernandez, Karen Fukuhara, and Jared Leto. While I've definitely seen the man pop up in other films I'm much more familiar with his excellent work on AMC's Hell on Wheels.

Which SUICIDE SQUAD role would Common be a good fit for?
