It's not every day that you get to meet your childhood heroes and even when you do there's always the fear that it may somehow tarnish the respect you had for them as a kid. Sometimes that one encounter can ruin everything. Fortunately, in the case of Rob Liefeld, the creator of DEADPOOL, that was not the case. As someone who has read weekly comics for nearly three decades, I can remember the excitement and impact that Rob Liefeld had on the industry when he took over New Mutants and then X-Force in the '90's. Liefeld's unique style is an undeniable influence on the medium of comics and now his signature character, DEADPOOL, is gearing up to hit theaters in 2016 with star Ryan Reynolds starring in the role he was born to play.
I caught up with Rob at Comic Con and we had a long, interesting, and insightful chat about DEADPOOL, his origins, his influence, the journey of the film getting made, trying to unlock the character on LEGO Marvel, and so much more. It's a long, compelling conversation and proof that sometimes meeting your childhood heroes can really pay off.
