Well, this just made my day. Recently screenwriter Gary Whitta (THE BOOK OF ELI, Gareth Edwards' upcoming STAR WARS spinoff) has been talking about what a big screen version of the mystery television series Columbo might look like on his Twitter, and he thinks Mark Ruffalo would be excellent as the cigar chomping Lt. Columbo.
Look at this man, how is this NOT the Columbo of today? pic.twitter.com/Vl8heHmGve

Apparently Mark Ruffalo was listening, because the actor later tweeted he has had a conversation with NOW YOU SEE ME screenwriter Ed Solomon about a potential Columbo movie.
@MysteryExec @garywhitta Ed Soloman approached me on this about a month ago. We are thinking a movie.

Now, obviously this doesn't mean a Columbo film has been greenlit, nor does it mean Mark Ruffalo is a lock to play the detective, but I'm praying to God, Allah, and anyone else who will listen this project will actually happen. The show originally aired on NBC from 1971 to 1978, and then began airing less frequently on ABC beginning in 1989. I watched a ton of the series and TV movies featuring Peter Falk as Columbo when I was a kid, and I think Mark Ruffalo would be perfect as the character. Are you down with Mark Ruffalo playing Columbo in a feature film?
Just one more thing…Mark Ruffalo can currently be seen in BEGIN AGAIN, and is hard at work on another movie you may have heard of called AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON.
