As we know, Colin Trevorrow was slated to take the helm of STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, but after several years of development, Lucasfilm parted ways with the director, saying that "Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon." STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS director J.J. Abrams was brought in to take over the project, and much of Trevorrow's original script was scrapped, but it was revealed last week that Trevorrow will still share a story credit (along with writing partner Derek Connolly) on THE RISE OF SKYWALKER.

We don't know exactly what elements of Colin Trevorrow's original script for STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER have survived, but it's enough that Trevorrow will be receiving residuals for his contribution to the film. In a statement to Deadline, Trevorrow announced that he'll be donating any residuals he receives from the film to the Alexander Devine Children's Hospice in honour of STAR WARS creator George Lucas.

Through his films, George Lucas taught us about our connection to all living things. He taught us to take care of one another, and he set a powerful example himself. The Alexander Devine Hospice helps families in the most challenging of times. I can’t think of a more fitting way to honor George’s legacy.

Fiona Devine, CEO and co-founder of the hospice, added, "The force is strong with us. We are blown away by this incredibly generous gesture and we are deeply thankful to Colin for thinking of us. This extraordinary donation, the equivalent of paying for a nurse for a year, will really help us to continue to do this and importantly reach out to even more families that need us. We know that there are at least 1,200 children across Berkshire and the surrounding counties that need our help. Our care is free of charge and we are reliant on donations and fundraising to run our vital service. We cannot thank Colin Trevorrow and his family enough for their amazing support and generosity." STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER is slated to hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
