Colin Trevorrow is only the most recent director to lose his Star Wars gig, following in the footsteps of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY) last summer. He was hired to direct STAR WARS EPISODE IX in 2015, but he and Lucasfilm parted ways over creative differences. Now the JURASSIC WORLD director is speaking out for the first time about the matter, and he seems to be looking on the bright side.
Trevorrow spoke with Empire recently while promoting JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, saying that the experience he had working on the movie was something he would “cherish” for the rest of his life.
I don't want to talk too much about it because I don't want to affect the way that fans get to see these films. When we were kids, these movies came to us from far away. They were a gift. And the more we talk about how they're made, the more it reveals that they're just movies. But they're not just movies, they're more than that. Beyond that, I got the opportunity to tell a story that is a celebration of everything I believe in, I got to tell it to George Lucas and I got to tell it to Luke Skywalker, and those are experiences I will cherish for the rest of my life.
Last September it was announced that Trevorrow and Lucasfilm would be “mutually parting ways” on EPISODE IX with FORCE AWAKENS director J.J. Abrams returning to take his place. This came only months after Lord and Miller were let go from SOLO, being replaced with Ron Howard. Later, a report came out saying Trevorrow's removal from the project was perhaps due to his allegedly poor behavior on the set of past films like JURASSIC WORLD and THE BOOK OF HENRY
At least Trevorrow has a positive attitude about everything. With his slate opening up a bit he has now taken on directing duties for the third JURASSIC WORLD film (J.A. Bayona directed the second one, which is due next month), a movie that will also be a surefire hit, so it's not like he's hurting for projects.
JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM hits theaters June 22.
