Colin Firth to star in Gavin Hood’s Eye in the Sky

Gavin Hood, who more recently tackled space action and politics in ENDER’S GAME, is bringing things ground-level for his next feature, EYE IN THE SKY.  The film is poised to tackle the use of drones in modern warfare.  While I would’ve liked to have seen that issue tackled in the now dead-in-the-water TOP GUN sequel, there’s still plenty of moral ambiguity to go around for other films.  Colin Firth and Ged Doherty’s company, Raindog Films, will produce the picture.  Firth will also be starring in the film.  No word yet if a speech impediment will factor into the role.

Here’s the snyopsis (from Deadline):

Eye In The Sky centers on London-based military intelligence officer Colonel Michelle Madden who is remotely commanding a top secret drone operation that aims to capture a group of terrorists in Nairobi. The mission suddenly escalates from a “capture” to a “kill” operation when she realizes the targets are about to embark on a suicide mission, which would result in the deaths of many innocent civilians. Meanwhile, American drone pilot Steve Watts is poised to destroy the safe-house when a nine-year-old-girl enters the kill zone. With unforeseen collateral damage factoring into the equation and with the volatility of the situation increasing, Madden must pass the mission’s authority up the “kill chain” to politicians and lawyers, including the British Foreign secretary.

EYE IN THE SKY, starring Colin Firth, will start shooting this August in South Africa. You’ll be able to catch Firth on the big screen next in Matthew Vaughn‘s (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, KICK-ASS) upcomming film, THE SECRET SERVICE.  The flick also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Caine, and Mark Strong, and is set for a October 24, 2014 release date.

One might wonder if Raindog Films would commission a horror flick based on the concept of a super tall Colin Firth, because this is terrifying.
