It's probably safe to say that most of us are anxiously looking forward to Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN; with a fresh take on the Dark Knight and an all-star cast, the project has the potential to be something truly special. Among the members of the all-star cast is Colin Farrell, who will be stepping into the role of Penguin, one of Gotham City's biggest crime kingpins.

While speaking with GMA, Colin Farrell spilled a few small details about THE BATMAN, but not before expressing his excitement at joining the franchise. "To be a part of that universe and just there are certain words that are part of my internal lexicon: Gotham City, Penguin, Joker, Batman, Bruce Wayne, Harvey Dent, all these things," Farrell said. "Tim Burton’s Batman was kind of my, no, I watched the Adam West TV show growing up actually as well. So Batman as a kid, yes very much, not in comic book form but the TV show I watched ardently when I was a child. And then in my teens I saw Burton’s version and loved it." The actor obviously couldn't say much about the production of THE BATMAN, only to say that he had just started started work on the film before the COVID-19 shutdown and couldn't wait to get back to bringing a few "tasty" scenes to life.

The creation of it, the aesthetic of the character, has been fun and I really am so excited to get back and explore it. And I haven’t got that much to do. I have a certain amount in the film. I am not all over it by any means. But there are a couple of some tasty scenes I have in it and my creation and I can’t wait to get back. Yeah, I totally feel like it is something that I have not had the opportunity to explore before. It feels original and fun. But I am only at the start of the journey so I can’t wait to get back and really get into it.

In addition to Colin Farrell, THE BATMAN also stars Robert Pattinson (THE LIGHTHOUSE) as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies) as Catwoman, Paul Dano (SWISS ARMY MAN) as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright (NO TIME TO DIE) as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis (STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI) as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro (The Night Of) as Carmine Falcone, and Peter Sarsgaard (THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN) as DA Gil Colson. THE BATMAN is slated to hit theaters on October 1, 2021.
