Fans of the crowd-funded sci-fi film Code 8 will be happy to learn that its stars, Stephen Amell and Robbie Amell, are returning for the highly anticipated sequel.

Officially titled Code 8: Part II, the film will once again be directed by Jeff Chan with Chan sharing screenwriting duties with Chris Paré, Sherren Lee & Jesse LaVercomb. The sequel is expected to start filming in the fourth quarter of 2021 and it will be centered around the 4% of people living in fictional Lincoln City who possess special abilities and are often confronted by advanced, militarized police technology. It’s a sci-fi fantasy about the extraordinary power that we as individuals hold, versus the technological superiority of the institutions that we live within. The sequel also follows the journey of a teenage girl fighting to get justice for her slain brother at the hands of corrupt police officers. After becoming a witness to the cover-up, she becomes a target and enlists the help of an ex-con (Robbie Amell) and his former partner-in-crime (Stephen Amell).

The original Code 8 gained traction thanks to over 35,000 fans who contributed $2.5 million through Indiegogo which made it the second-largest crowd-funded original film of all time. The film also set the record for the highest-grossing day-and-date release for Elevation Pictures in Canada and Vertical Entertainment in the U.S. Soon after its release, the film reached No.1 on Netflix's Top Ten list, holding that spot for most of April 2020 in dozens of countries including the U.S, France, Australia, U.K., Mexico, and Brazil. Jeff Chan, speaking about getting a chance to do a sequel, said "We're beyond thrilled to get the team back together and bring more of the Code 8 universe to our very passionate fans. We know this is a sequel that will push the story to new heights."

Cousins Robbie Amell and Stephen Amell have maintained great momentum in the industry since making their big breaks. Robbie Amell can currently be seen leading the cast of Amazon's hit series, Upload, and he will also be appearing in the next entry of the Resident Evil movie franchise. He also had three movies premiere on Netflix in 2020 that included Code 8, The Babysitter 2, and Desperados. Stephen Amell is most notably known for playing the Green Arrow on the hit CW series Arrow, which ran for eight seasons and 170 episodes. The actor just recently wrapped production on the STARZ upcoming wrestling family drama Heels, slated to premiere in 2021.
