Cocaine Bear has invaded the zeitgeist of the moviegoing population. It’s not just the title, either, which does sound like a lousy Syfy flick, but its success in sticking to the aesthetic of ‘80s B and natural horror movies. And so what better way to capitalize on the cult interest in Cocaine Bear than with a Funko Pop!?
Funko has two editions of the cocaine bear available: Bear with Leg and Bear with Bag, the latter of which is listed as an exclusive. Neither Cocaine Bear figure is molded quite in the traditional Funko style, which is primarily due to the bear being a, well, bear, and not a human. While the one with a bag of blow has more of the feel, the one with the human leg depicts the beast on all fours.
“At Funko, bringing to life IPs that celebrate a unique moment in pop culture is a huge part of our ethos. When we find these opportunities, we move quickly to bring products to our fans,” said a Funko rep. “When we first saw the trailer for Cocaine Bear, we knew it was going to be a massive moment in the zeitgeist, which is why we immediately reached out to our partners at Universal and asked if we could create a collection inspired by the film through our Pop! and Mondo offerings.” In addition to Funko figures, Cocaine Bear got the Mondo treatment with a print from We Buy Your Kids. The edition of 170 of course sold out and can now be bought on secondary markets for at least triple the price.
Cocaine Bear has proven to have an almost immediate cult following who wants in on the joke. Surprisingly, reviews have been firmly on board, as it sits in the 70s on Rotten Tomatoes. Our own Chris Bumbray gave it a 7/10, saying it’s “one heck of a good time at the movies.” From a movie called Cocaine Bear, what more do you want? If the movie proves to be a success at the box office–which it very well could be a minor one–fans may expect sequels like Cocaine Bear in Outer Space, which we’ve been assured is most definitely not a joke.
