Cobra Kai: Ralph Macchio says a Hilary Swank cameo could work

Hilary Swank, The Next Karate Kid, Cobra Kai

When Cobra Kai was first announced, I’ll admit that the thought of a Karate Kid TV series streaming on YouTube didn’t strike me as the best idea. The series certainly proved me wrong as it went on to become bigger and better each season. Featuring Ralph Macchio and William Zabka as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, Cobra Kai has featured more characters from the movies, including Martin Kove as John Kreese, Elisabeth Shue as Ali Mills, and more. With the fourth season set to debut in just a few days and a fifth season in the works, there’s plenty of time for more characters from The Karate Kid franchise to appear on Cobra Kai, but what about Hilary Swank?

The fourth film in the Karate Kid franchise found Mr. Miyagi travelling to Arlington National Cemetery to attend a commendation for Japanese-Americans who fought during World War II. In her first starring role, Hilary Swank played Julie Pierce, a high-school teenager struggling with anger issues after the death of her parents. The Next Karate Kid proved to be the end of the franchise until The Karate Kid reboot with Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith in 2010. While speaking with Jake Hamilton, Ralph Macchio was asked if Jackie Chan and/or Jaden Smith’s characters could fit into the Miyagi-verse. The answer was no, but Macchio did say that a Hilary Swank cameo could happen on Cobra Kai.

Anyone who knew Mr. Miyagi and interacted with Mr. Miyagi is canon for our show, for the ‘Cobra Kai’ show… someone like Julie Pierce, who is Hilary Swank’s role, did know Miyagi. So there’s always a chance for maybe that.

Cobra Kai co-creator Jon Hurwitz has previously said that the writers have discussed bringing Julie Pierce back, but it’s just a matter of whether Hilary Swank would want to reprise the role. Would you like to see Hilary Swank make an appearance on Cobra Kai? What other Karate Kid characters should pop up in the series? The fourth season of Cobra Kai will debut on Netflix on December 31st, but you can check out a review from our own Alex Maidy right now!
