Hands down one of my favorite comedy flicks of all-time is the 1985 adaptation of the murder-mystery board game CLUE starring Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn, and Michael McKean (to name a few). The film isn’t really horror, but I think it sports enough gothic atmosphere, murder, and mayhem to be included here on AITH.
If you’re a fan of the film too then you might already know that screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (ZOMBIELAND, DEADPOOL) are currently working on a new live-action movie based on the classic game. The writers actually dropped some new info on the planned reboot over at MTV today and the info is interesting, to say the least.
Paul Wernick:
Don’t be surprised if Clue is an R rated… Potentially.
Potentially. Right. Thanks, dude. To be a bit more in-depth than just click baiting the interview, Wernick’s partner in crime, Rhett Reese gave us a bit more info on the film. More specifically he tells of just what the team plans to do with the new film in regards to how it stands up next to the Tim Curry classic.
Rhett Reese:
It will have elements of [the original movie], but it’s important that we don’t try and just rehash it. We want to build on it. We want to take some of what makes it fun and funny, but then we want to do our own thing. It’s about finding that balance. Hopefully, we don’t upset the Clue-hounds because there are a lot of them apparently. We didn’t realize this until we signed up.
Clue-hounds? Is that a thing? I guess so and if it is then you can count me in as one of those said hounds. I’m not going to be sending any angry tweets and/or emails to anyone about the planned reboot, but I will merely ask that they make room in the film for the remaining members of the original film’s cast. Cameos are fine, meaty supporting roles would be better. Fingers crossed.
We’ll let you know when we hear more.
