I don't think CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA was very high on the public's radar before today, but something tells me that's going to change with a slick piece of marketing via the trailer that's just come out of Cannes.
You tell me:
Here's the synopsis:
At the peak of her international career, Maria Enders is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years ago. But back then she played the role of Sigrid, an alluring young girl who disarms and eventually drives her boss Helena to suicide. Now she is being asked to step into the other role, that of the older Helena. She departs with her assistant to rehearse in Sils Maria; a remote region of the Alps. A young Hollywood starlet with a penchant for scandal is to take on the role of Sigrid, and maria finds herself on the other side of the mirror, face to face with an ambiguously charming woman who is, in essence, an unsettling reflection of herself.
The concept is an intriguing one and Juliette Binoche completely owns every role she's in, no matter how large or small (she recently brought some tears to Bryan Cranston's eyes in GODZILLA). I'm actually more curious to see how Kristen Stewart and Chloe Moretz fare. They obviously struck gold with TWILIGHT and KICK-ASS respectively, but I'm curious as to what they can bring to the table in regards to this film. Also; ass.
CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA, starring Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart, Chloe Moretz, and Brady Corbet, will be released stateside on December 1, 2014.
