I didn't know that Steven Spielberg's sci-fi classic CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND was getting not only a 4K restoration but that restoration was getting a (limited) theatrical run until just now! But, yeah, turns out the film will be back in theaters for a one-week run beginning Sept. 1.
The 4K restoration is Spielberg’s director’s cut so if you're a fan of THAT version, you should be extra excited. This year is the film's 40th anniversary so fan of the director's cut or not, make your way out to see it in theaters and bring the kids/girlfriends. They'll love the domestic scenes – and everything else.
Below you can check out the restoration's poster and a link to the trailer, along with an interesting bit from EW that breaks down the trailer a bit for those interested in such things. After checking all of that out, let us know if you plan to see the film in theaters on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND trailer rundown via EW:
Taking cues from the movie’s title, the two-and-a-half minute video demonstrates the three types of UFO close encounters: The first kind involves a sighting, as when electrical worker Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss) and single mother Jillian Guiler (Melinda Dillon) witness a startling flyover.
The second kind is denoted by physical evidence, such as the facial burn Roy receives from a flying saucer’s bright lights. Needless to say, the third kind of close encounter — direct contact with extraterrestrials — has even greater consequences.
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND 4K hits theaters for one-week starting Sept. 1st.
