It has been a while since we last heard an update on the television series Clive Barker has been developing with screenwriter Josh Stolberg based on Barker's 1990 film NIGHTBREED and the 1988 source material, his novella Cabal. More than half a year ago, we heard the Nightbreed TV show was set up at Syfy, but there have been no status reports since then. I'm sure there are fans out there who are worrying that the project might be dead.
During a recent interview, (the same one where he discussed the Books of Blood TV series), Barker assured readers that the Nightbreed show is still in the works.
Nightbreed is also moving forward at quite a rate with a couple of very well-known directors showing a great deal of interest in it. I am on board to provide mythologies and ideas and hopefully put the Barkerian weirdness on the material.
At the moment, we're putting the team together: we have a writer, director, producers and now that the New Year has begun we'll all get together and start to plan the long-term narrative, not just the opening narrative which is what we've done so far.
I have the sense that, if all the things that I've been promised come true, there is a real passion for matching the tone of both the book and the film."
I was never a huge fan of NIGHTBREED myself and it has been a long time since I watched the movie, but I know it has passionate followers, fans who had to wait twenty-four years just to see a director's cut. Hopefully the development of this show won't keep them waiting around much longer and we'll be hearing more news about it soon.
