Paramount has gone to the dogs lately, and by that, I mean that the studio has greenlit Clifford the Big Red Dog 2. Plans to develop a sequel to the live-action family film based on the 1963 Norman Bridwell children’s classic book arrives not long after Paramount announced a sequel to Paw Patrol: The Movie. Clifford the Big Red Dog has grossed $34.6M in domestic returns to date. The movie was also Paramount’s most-watched movie on its streaming service for an original film.
Directed by Walt Becker (Old Dogs, National Lampoon’s Van Wilder) and based on a screenplay by Jay Scherick, David Ronn and Blaise Hemingway, Clifford the Big Red Dog stars Jack Whitehall, Darby Camp, Tony Hale, Sienna Guillory, David Alan Grier, Russell Wong, Kenan Thompson, Tovah Feldshuh, Izaac Wang, Alex Moffat, Paul Rodriguez, Rosie Perez, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Russell Peters, Keith Ewell, Bear Allen-Blaine and John Cleese.
Here’s the official synopsis for Clifford the Big Red Dog:
When middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gifts her a little, red puppy, she never anticipated waking up to find a giant ten-foot hound in her small New York City apartment. While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away for business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) set out on an adventure that will keep you on the edge of your seat as our heroes take a bite out of the Big Apple. Based on the beloved Scholastic book character, Clifford will teach the world how to love big!
Clifford the Big Red Dog 2 is in the early stages of development, though there’s been talk about bringing the original filmmaking team back for the sequel.
Is the regular-sized world capable of enduring more of Clifford’s oversized antics? I’m sure that your kids can’t wait to find out. We’ll be sure to let you know when more details about Clifford the Big Red Dog 2 come bounding onto the scene.
