Clerks 3: Production officially wraps on Kevin Smith’s latest comedy sequel

Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes pose for the wrap of Clerks 3

Kevin Smith recently announced that production on Clerks 3 has officially wrapped. The View Askewniverse mastermind first celebrated his latest cinematic victory with a photo of him and Jason Mewes. Now, he’s shared a new image that includes actors Brian O’Halloran, Jeff Anderson, and producers Jordan Monsanto and Liz Destro.

The anticipated sequel to 2006’s Clerks II began principal photography at the beginning of August. Wow! That’s quite the turnaround, eh? In the new movie, Randall (Anderson) decides to make a movie with Dante (O’Halloran) about their lives at the Quick Stop convenience store.

“We wrapped Clerks III just before midnight last night,” Smith said in a previous social media post. “What had once been a whimsical wish is now rooted in reality – and Dante, Randal, Becky, Elias, and @jayandsilentbob all have new s**t to say for the first time in over a decade! In what’s about as personal a movie as I’ve made, we watch our heroes grapple with their own mortality by embracing art. Art changed *my* life – so it’s only fair art enhances the lives of my favorite fictional characters as well. Our little ode to the healing power of creation in the face of destruction tastes like a Pork Roll- flavored #cinemaparadiso – all because our cast and crew crafted as fine a motion picture as I’ve ever been involved with!”

Directed and written by Smith, Clerks III stars Brian O’Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, Trevor Fehrman, Rosario Dawson, Jason Mewes, and Smith. One can probably expect a cameo or two as well, seeing as Smith loves to pack his films with friends, Easter eggs, and surprises for hardcore fans.

Lionsgate has yet to set a release date for Clerks III. However, Smith says that he’s already spliced an hour of the film together, so we’re closer than we think. And hey, if we’re lucky, Smith will share a teaser trailer or some first-look footage sooner rather than later.

Are you ready to return to the Quick Stop with Smith and company after so many years? Do you think Dante and Becky are still together? Are Jay and Silent Bob still slinging baggies and grooving to Morris Day and the Time? We’ll find out when Clerks III eventually hits theaters.
