Clerks 3 BTS images tease recreated scenes from original Clerks

It’s been nearly thirty years since Kevin Smith first introduced us to Dante Hicks (Brian O’Halloran) and Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) in his breakout indie comedy Clerks and Clerks 3 is just around the corner. Production on the sequel wrapped last year and Kevin Smith took to social media to give an update on the project as well as share a few interesting behind-the-scenes images from Clerks 3 production.

While those may look like scenes from the original Clerks, Kevin Smith says that they “actually incredible recreations of the past as seen in Clerks III!” Sounds interesting. Kevin Smith added that they finished the sound mix for Clerks 3 yesterday and are only awaiting the last few VFX shots before the film is completely done. You can check out Smith’s full comment below:

The images on screen may look like they’re from Clerks but they’re actually incredible recreations of the past as seen in Clerks III! We finished the sound mix for Clerks III at @ugosound in #burbank yesterday, and @learan is back east in NYC at @goldcrestpostny, putting the final touches on the last few vfx shots that @armenvfx and @encore_vfx saved our asses with. That means we are hours away from being completely finished on #clerks3. Last year at this time, it was just a second draft of a script; one year later, we’re delivering a finished film to @lionsgate. And to thank them for giving me the money to go back to @quickstopgroceries, I’m giving them my absolute best. I love Clerks III so much. It’s way better than the movie I thought I was gonna make – which has everything to do with surrounding yourself with talented people who do the actual work. Big thanks to @jordanmonsanto and @destrofilms – without whom it would all stay on the page. I can’t wait to watch this with you fine folks on tour!

Inspired by Smith’s real-life heart attack, Clerks 3 will find Randal having suffered a massive heart attack and enlisting fellow clerks Dante, Elias, Jay, and Silent Bob in order to make a movie immortalizing his life at the convenience store that started it all. It seems that Smith had a ball making the movie, even telling Vanity Fair during production that he wishes he’d been making Clerks movies all this time. “These characters are so close to my heart, and finally letting them take the journey that they sent me on is a big deal for me,” Smith said. “Without Dante and Randal, I’m not where I am.
