CBS has been holding off on the decision of how to handle the Silence of the Lambs sequel series Clarice, which seems to have had trouble holding on to an audience – and some feel that the trouble is due to how CBS has been airing the show. As TV Insider's Matt Roush describes it, there have been "long breaks between episodes. After its first five weeks, only two episodes were aired in April and in May, with two more set for June to wrap the season on June 24. Whether this was a result of filming difficulties during the pandemic, as it has been with so many shows, I'm not sure, but this sort of scheduling does no show any favors". Now it appears there is going to be a second season of Clarice, but it's not going to air on CBS. The show is moving to the Paramount Plus streaming network.
Deadline's Peter White reports:
Clarice will be moving to Paramount+ next season. The deals are still being finalized but I hear … freshman Clarice's second season will stream exclusively on Paramount+. Reps for the streamer and CBS Studios, which produces (the) series, declined comment.
Written and executive produced by Jenny Lumet and Alex Kurtzman, Clarice stars Rebecca Breeds as the title character. The series is
set in 1993, one year after the events of The Silence of the Lambs. It tells the personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high-stakes political world of Washington, D.C.
Breeds is joined in the cast by Kal Penn as Emin Grigoryan, "an agent with a Ph.D. in library science"; Michael Cudlitz as Paul Krendler, "leader of the VICAP Fly Team"; Nick Sandow as Murray Clarke, "Clarice's chief hazer"; Lucca De Oliveira as Tomas Esquivel, "who attended Dartmouth on an ROTC scholarship and became a counter-sniper during Operation Desert Storm"; Devyn A. Tyler as Ardelia Mapp, "Clarice's closest friend and her roommate at the FBI Academy"; Marnee Carpenter as Catherine Martin, "who was saved from Buffalo Bill's basement by Clarice"; Jayne Atkinson as Ruth Martin, "the newly appointed attorney general and Catherine's mother"; Shawn Doyle as "Clarice's therapist at Quantico"; and Tim Guinee as Novak, "the leader of a secessionist militia group".
Elizabeth Klaviter serves as showrunner and executive produces alongside Lumet, Kurtzman, and Heather Kadin. Aaron Baiers is co-executive producer. Clarice is a collaboration between MGM Television and CBS Studios, in association with Secret Hideout.
