Cinematographer Larry Fong enlists to shoot The Predator

Writer/director Shane Black and his co-writer Fred Dekker (with whom he wrote THE MONSTER SQUAD thirty years ago) are doing an excellent job keeping the details of THE PREDATOR, their "inventive sequel" to 1987's PREDATOR, under wraps. Although Black has provided a lot of quotes about the project, all we really know about the story of the film is that it will acknowledge the events of the '87 movie in some way. It will obviously have a Predator in it, and human characters will be played by Boyd Holbrook (replacing the briefly attached Benicio del Toro) and Olivia Munn. One report claimed that the film would see the Predator invading suburbia, but Black quickly denied that. ALIENS VS. PREDATOR: REQUIEM already gave us a Predator in suburbia anyway.

Whatever the story, wherever the action occurs, we can now start assuming that THE PREDATOR is going to be a great looking film no matter what, because cinematographer Larry Fong is confirmed to have joined the project.

Frequently collaborating with Zack Snyder, Fong has shot such films as 300, WATCHMEN, SUCKER PUNCH, and BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. He was behind the camera for several episodes of Lost, including the JJ Abrams-directed pilot, and he and Abrams worked together again on my favorite movie of 2011, SUPER 8. I don't like every movie Fong has been involved with as much as I like SUPER 8, but he has certainly brought some incredible imagery to the screen over the years.

With the release of KONG: SKULL ISLAND on March 10, 2017, Fong's work will again be on display on the big screen, and if you've watched the trailers for that film I'm sure you've noticed that it has some very stylish cinematography going on.

Fong is an awesome addition to this project, and I'm really looking forward to seeing how he shoots THE PREDATOR.

THE PREDATOR is set to be released onĀ February 9, 2018.
