Cinemark is enforcing costume restrictions for The Force Awakens screenings

It’s going to be absolute bedlam inside any theater showing STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS throughout opening weekend. Fans will be sharing in this experience with other fans, and you can bet more than a few people had planned on going all out, pulling out all the stops in order to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime event.

However, if you were planning on dressing up and attending a showtime of THE FORCE AWAKENS in full STAR WARS character garb, don’t do it at a Cinemark. They’ve got restrictions in place that will ultimately make it much more of a hassle to do than if you chose to attend in plain street clothes.

Based on their posted rules, don’t come as a Stormtrooper (unless you’re prepared to ditch the helmet and blaster) or Darth Vader (same deal with the helmet and your lightsaber) or Darth Maul or Chewbacca or… you get the idea.

Even if you were to opt for one of the more human characters in the saga, you’d better leave your weaponry in the car, because it won’t be allowed in.

Does this suck? Absolutely. But due to our recent history with movie theater shootings, it’s a step that movie theaters feel they need to make for the safety of their patrons. You really can’t fault them for acting in such a manner, but it is a damn shame that we’ve gotten to the point where this has had to become the norm.

You might want to check with the theater of your choosing for your THE FORCE AWAKENS showtime. They may have rules, too, that you’d want to know about ahead of time before you get all decked out, only to be told you must disassemble all your effort upon arrival.

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS hits theaters on December 18.
