Disney has plenty of hits coming out this year, in case you didn’t already guess that (CAPTAIN MARVEL is officially their first billion-dollar movie of the year). After AVENGERS and STAR WARS perhaps their biggest movie will be the upcoming animated fourquel, TOY STORY 4, which will once again find our favorite talking toys going on a life-changing adventure. Disney brought not only a clip to CinemaCon, but rather the first 17 minutes of the movie, which is no small chunk, and our Paul Shirey is here with another video to give you the rundown.
Now, though this isn’t AVENGERS or STAR WARS, and a spoiler warning isn’t totally necessary, it is worth mentioning that Paul goes into what is essentially a good chunk of the first act of the movie. If you want to go in very fresh for this new Pixar outing, then perhaps you should treat this like any other “Spoiler” piece and run away. I will also throw on a Foul Language warning because Paul has a potty mouth.

Okay, so in the footage, we pick up before the events of the ending of TOY STORY, getting a “9 years earlier” bit that finds the toys back in the young Andy’s room. Once again, Woody (Tom Hanks) plans a rescue mission for a fallen toy (RC) and while outside executing Operation Get the Toy Back (I assume that’s the name) Andy’s mom comes in to get Bo Peep (Annie Potts), who has just been sold off to someone else. While being brought out to her new owner’s car Woody gets a moment alone with her, and the two have a tearful goodbye.
Flashforward with the help of Randy Newman, and now the toys are in Bonnie’s room doing their toy thing. After a series of events Bonnie comes home with a new toy, Forky, the one we’ve seen in the trailers, is voiced by Richard Kind, and is going through a serious identity crisis. One thing leads to another, and Forky escapes from the rest of them and Woody embarks on his journey to go find him and bring him home.

So, based on that, we can tell this is going to seem very similar to past TS movies – which is nothing to balk at – and we should expect a very sweet, heartfelt movie that possibly wraps things up for our favorite toys. Sure, you can say TS3 did that beautifully, but this does seem like a natural progression that will find a new way to bring some chapters to a close. Or, it will be redundant. We’ll see.
TOY STORY 4 is in theaters June 21, and stay tuned to the JoBlo Twitter for all CinemaCon updates.
