Chucky vs. Michael Myers! Slashers cross paths in shared ad

Universal has released every sequel in the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise, and they’re also behind the Chucky television series that is now airing on both Syfy and USA Network. And Chucky isn’t the only iconic slasher currently set up at the studio – Universal is also releasing the Halloween films being produced by Blumhouse Productions and directed by David Gordon Green. And that’s how we get the mash-up ad embedded above. To promote both Chucky and the new Halloween sequel Halloween Kills, which officially reaches theatres and the Peacock streaming service on October 15th (and will actually start showing in many theatres tonight), Universal has created an ad in which Chucky and Michael Myers cross paths. Their interaction is very brief, but it’s still cool to see these two slashers share the screen.

The first season of Chucky is set to run for eight episodes, and you can read our own Alex Maidy’s review of the first four episodes at THIS LINK. A follow-up to all of the Child’s Play movies (remake excluded), the show picks up where Cult of Chucky left off. Don Mancini, who has written every Child’s Play film (except that remake) and directed a few of them, developed Chucky with producer David Kirschner. Mancini and Kirschner are executive producing Chucky with Harley Peyton, Alex Hedlund, and Nick Antosca. Mancini also directed the first episode. The show’s synopsis:

After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Our own JimmyO gave Halloween Kills an 8/10 review you can read HERE. David Gordon Green’s Halloween 2018 (watch it HERE) ignored all of the other Halloween movies except for John Carpenter’s original (which you can watch HERE). Directed by Green from a screenplay he wrote with Danny McBride and Scott Teems, this film is set on the same night as its predecessor.

Minutes after Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) left masked monster Michael Myers caged and burning in Laurie’s basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor. But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie’s trap, his ritual bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their unstoppable monster. The Strode women join a group of other survivors of Michael’s first rampage who decide to take matters into their own hands, forming a vigilante mob that sets out to hunt Michael down, once and for all. Evil dies tonight.

Don Mancini has ideas filed away for concepts like “Chucky vs. Freddy” and “Chucky in space”, I wonder if he would be up for a Chucky vs. Michael Myers feature…
