A fan favorite is returning to the world of Child's Play. Fiona Dourif will be reprising her role as Nica Pierce on the upcoming USA/Syfy series, Chucky. Dourif will once again join her real-life father, Brad Dourif, who will be providing the voice for everyone's favorite killer doll.
Dourif first appeared as Nica Pierce in 2013's Curse of Chucky before reprising the role again in 2017's Cult of Chucky. Dourif's character was ultimately sent to a mental asylum for the criminally insane after her first tussle with Chucky in the 2013 film. Things took a turn for the worst in Cult of Chucky when Nica ultimately became a host for Charles Lee Ray's evil spirit. SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS FILM…YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!! By that film's end, Nica/Chucky reunited with Tiffany, Chucky's killer girlfriend, and they drove off to another round of carnage and terror.
Dourif joins Devon Sawa, Zackary Arthur, Teo Briones, Bjorgvin Arnarson, and Alyvia Alyn Lind in the cast that, of course, also includes Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky and Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany. Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky are definite fan favorites and Fiona Dourif has been a highlight across both of those films. Her casting on the TV series should ensure that Child's Play fans will definitely give this show a shot.
Chucky will pick up after a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a yard sale. The idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of murders begin to expose the town's secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies, and allies, from Chucky's past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the doll's untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who became a notorious monster.
Chucky creator Don Mancini has hinted recently that the show will go back to the straightforward frights of the original. Mancini stated "With this TV show, our mission has been to preserve the straightforward scariness of the original film or the first couple of films. But at the same time, continue on with this ever-expanding tapestry of consistent story that we've spun over the course of seven movies and 30-some years. I think fans are really gonna love to see the new characters that we introduce into this realm and just to see how they came off of our classic characters. Not just Chucky, but some of the others that you may be hoping to see. There's a good chance they may turn up."
This Chucky series is sounding more and more like a love letter to the fans and I personally can't wait to see it. The addition of Fiona Dourif only shows that Don Mancini and his team are really looking to expand the Child's Play universe while also honoring its past and the fans that have made the franchise a hit over the years.
