Chuck Palahniuk is preparing a graphic novel sequel to Fight Club

As a huge fan of both author Chuck Palahniuk and director David Fincher, I have a major bias in writing this article. Knowing that comics prove a fertile ground to expand on stories that could be either cinematic or narrative masterpieces, Palahniuk has embraced the illustrated page as where he will continue the tale of Tyler Durden.

FIGHT CLUB fans know the name Tyler Durden both from Palahniuk's brilliant debut novel and the Brad Pitt personification in Fincher's film. To this day, I look at my signed copy of the FIGHT CLUB Special Edition DVD with pride. After multiple unique novels, including his first sequel (DOOMED will hit stores this year, the sequel to his novel DAMNED), we have not returned to the world of FIGHT CLUB. Until now.

Speaking at Comic Con, Palahniuk shared his plans for the sequel to be a graphic novel, a point he explained further in this email to his official website:

About the graphic novel, it's true.  Chelsea Cain has been introducing me to artists and creators from Marvel, DC and Dark Horse, and they're walking me through the process.  It will likely be a series of books that update the story ten years after the seeming end of Tyler Durden.   Nowadays, Tyler is telling the story, lurking inside Jack, and ready to launch a come-back.  Jack is oblivious.  Marla is bored.  Their marriage has run aground on the rocky coastline of middle-aged suburban boredom.  It's only when their little boy disappears, kidnapped by Tyler, that Jack is dragged back into the world of Mayhem.
 
It will, of course, be dark and messy.  Due to contract obligations it can't come to light for a while.  Next year is "Beautiful You," followed by the story collection.  But since the Fight Club sequel will appear serialized in graphic form, my book publisher might allow me to launch it earlier than 2015.
 
Feel free to release any or all of this information.  We haven't started to court a specific publisher, not until I hammer out the complete story.
 

Hell yes! I love the idea of continuing the original novel but using the visual format to incorporate the motifs from the Fincher film. Even if they went in an entirely original visual style I would be okay, but I have a feeling we will recognize the visages of Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Helena Bonham Carter, and maybe even Meat Loaf or Jared Leto.

Palahniuk was quick to point out nothing is concrete yet, but as one of the few rock stars of the literary world, I find it hard to believe this won’t happen.
