Christopher Nolan’s latest film is still a year away from hitting the big screen, but that isn’t stopping Universal Pictures from unveiling the explosive first teaser trailer for Oppenheimer, a movie about the titular theoretical physicist who becomes known as the father of the atomic bomb. The teaser was first seen in theaters last week ahead of Jordan Peele’s Nope.
Oppenheimer is based on Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s biographical novel “American Prometheus.” Nolan’s adaptation of the novel will follow Oppenheimer as he works at the Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project era. Cillian Murphy leads the cast as Oppenheimer, and he is joined by a stacked ensemble cast that includes Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, and more.
Oppenheimer was first announced in late 2021, and it was significant because it ended his long partnership with Warner Bros. Nolan auctioned off the rights to the film to a variety of studios, and this was over his frustration with Warner Bros. due to their handling of the simultaneous theatrical and HBO Max releases sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic. Universal Pictures emerged as the rights winner after a heated bidding war. Production ran from January to March 2022.
Did YOU like the teaser for Oppenheimer? The movie hits screens on July 21, 2023.
