After Sam Mendes decided not to direct a follow up to SKYFALL MGM announced that a new Bond film would probably be hitting theaters in 2016 and the search was on for a director. One popular name that keeps surfacing is Christopher Nolan, who has expressed his love for the franchise before (in particular ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE) in several interviews and conversations.
According to the Daily Mail, Nolan and his representatives have talked with Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson (producers of the Bond movies) about directing the next 007 film. It's still incredibly early and the talks are described as "informal" so clearly nothing is set in stone.
Although this might be a dream job for Christopher Nolan the question is will he be able to direct the film? Some might think he'll be too busy working on his new science-fiction film INTERSTELLAR but the next Bond movie is still at least three years away. Don't forget he also managed to film INCEPTION between the second and third Batman films so he shouldn't have a problem going from one massive project to another. But will Nolan want to do another huge time consuming film after INTERSTELLAR?
Christopher Nolan is an excellent choice but in my opinion I'd rather see him do something else. I'm sure he'd make a great Bond film but I almost wish he would do something smaller. I love the Batman films and INCEPTION but it's his smaller, more personal films like FOLLOWING and MEMENTO that originally earned the director my admiration and I would like to see him return to his roots just a little bit.
The untitled Bond movie should be out sometime in 2016 and Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR with Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain and Michael Caine will be released on November 7th, 2014.
