We may be on the verge of a first for the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise as Variety reports that Christopher McQuarrie, director of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION, is eyeing a return to write and possibly direct the next installment of the series. As MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION has proved to be a great success for Paramount, it's completely understandable that they would like to stay in business with McQuarrie.
Variety's sources say that talks are progressing and that the studio hopes to get production on MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 underway by next August. Tom Cruise will obviously be returning to star in the film, but the studio is also holding an option for Rebecca Ferguson to return as Ilsa Faust. Ferguson's character was one of many very welcome surprises held within MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION, but even still, McQuarrie has given himself an awfully high bar to overcome if he hopes to even match Rebecca Ferguson's ROGUE NATION storyline.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION will be released on Blu-ray/DVD on December 15, 2015.
Would you be open to Christopher McQuarrie returning for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6, or would you prefer to see someone new take the helm?
