Christoph Waltz will direct himself in The Worst Marriage in Georgetown

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Academy Award-winning actor Christoph Waltz is set to make his feature directorial debut and he's found quite the man to take on the lead role…himself. Variety is reporting that Waltz will direct and star in THE WORST MARRIAGE IN GEORGETOWN from a script by Pulitzer-winning David Auburn which was in turn based upon a New York Times Magazine article by Franklin Foer.

Christoph Waltz will play Albrecht Muth, an eccentric social climber who lied extensively about his background in order to seduce and marry Viola Drath, a wealthy old widow. Muth and Drath threw extravagant events for the elite in D.C's political circles, but when Drath was found dead, Albrecht Muth's lies came to light and he was put on trial for the murder of his wife.

Production on the film is set to get underway on October 12 with Voltage Pictures financing and producing the flick; distribution rights will be sold at Cannes. I love me some true crime drama and this role seems like a great fit for an actor skilled at playing charismatic weasels. Our next dose of Christoph Waltz will come later this year in both TULIP FEVER and SPECTRE.
