Christian Bale has pushed his body to the limit in order to play a wide variety of characters, from losing weight for movies like THE MACHINIST, bulking up for BATMAN, and packing on the pounds for AMERICAN HUSTLE. People seem to be dumbfounded as to how he does all of this, seemingly with ease, but if the actor’s new prep for the upcoming Dick Cheney movie means anything it’s that getting into character is as simple as eating tons of sweets.
While at TIFF recently to promote his new movie – HOSTILES – Bale was looking pretty prepared to play the famous vice president in Adam McKay’s new film, having packed on a few extra pounds. During an interview with Variety, the actor said all he had been doing was eating “lots of pie.”
Also sporting a clean-shaven face, Bale already looks like a younger version of Cheney, though no doubt some makeup will add years so he can play him in modern setting. The movie will also star Steve Carell as Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, with Amy Adams plays wife Lynne Cheney. This will be the second time Bale has worked with McKay, the first being his Oscar-nominated role in THE BIG SHORT.
Bale is known for going to the extremes to get into the mindset of his characters, but it’s interesting to see him getting to that point in the real world like this. We don’t really have to wait for the first images for the movie to drop in order to picture him as Cheney, as we can sort of fill in the gaps already. Basically, Bale is a total badass, doing whatever it takes to become immersed into his characters. He gets extra badass points because he gets to eat all the pie he wants. So lucky.
The DICK CHENEY movie will probably come fall 2018.
