When it comes to cinematic characters who've been around for decades, such as Superman, James Bond, or Batman, we've become used to the various actors who cycle through the roles, but that doesn't mean that we can't have our favourites. The last actor to inhabit the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman was a favourite of many and now that a new incarnation of the character is on the way, Christian Bale has been reminiscing about his time as the caped crusader in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. While talking to Yahoo Movies, Bale surprisingly revealed that he wasn't quite as fond of his performance as we were.
I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would throughout the trilogy, Chris did, but my own sense of self is like, "I didn’t quite nail it."
Christian Bale appeared as Bruce Wayne/Batman in BATMAN BEGINS, THE DARK KNIGHT, and THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, which were, so far, the most successful Batman movies of all-time, but I'm sure many artists can relate to Bale's attitude. While it's not clear as to exactly what Christian Bale was hoping to bring to the role that he wasn't able to, he did say that his plans were thrown off when Heath Ledger turned up as the Joker.
Heath turned up, and just kind of completely ruined all my plans, because I went, "he’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing."
BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE will hit theaters on March 25, 2016.
What, if any, aspects of Batman was Christian Bale not entirely successful with?
