UPDATED: New pic with Chris Pine as Jack Ryan and Kevin Coster as CIA agent William Harper (click to enlarge)
With the news of the JACK RYAN reboot hitting the net at a rapid pace, this still certainly has arrived just as fast. It seemed like the cast was coming together and the crew was gearing up for pre-productiong, but apparently they’re hip deep in it at this point. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, this will be the fourth iteration of the JACK RYAN character onscreen, which started with Alec Baldwin (THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER), then Harrison Ford (PATRIOT GAMES, CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER) and lastly with Ben Affleck (THE SUM OF ALL FEARS). Affleck’s version was the first crack at a “younger” JACK RYAN, but it didn’t seem to take with audiences, leaving the character absent from the big screen for a decade.
Grab your crotch rocket:
I think Pine is a fine choice for the role and with Branagh at the helm (as well as the villian), along with Kevin Costner as a CIA mentor to Ryan and Keira Knightley as the love interest, I’m sold. It’s been a long while since we’ve had a Tom Clancy thriller on the big screen and it would be nice to see his most famous character get some love. The news of Tom Hardy possibly taking the role of Clancy’s Navy SEAL, John Clark, in a long-overdue adaptation of WITHOUT REMORSE is great news as well.
Here’s a brief synopsis for JACK RYAN:
Jack Ryan segues from the Marine Corps to a position as a financial consultant for a Russian billionaire, where he’s framed in a terrorist plot and forced to go on the run.
JACK RYAN is set to open on December 25, 2013.
