This September, Walt Disney Pictures and director Craig Gillespie (MILLION DOLLAR ARM, LARS AND THE REAL GIRL) will go into production on the U.S. coast guard rescue flick, THE FINEST HOURS. Tapped to star in this film based on a true story will be Chris Pine of STAR TREK fame, and Casey Affleck (GONE BABY GONE, OCEAN’S THIRTEEN). The flick will be shot on in Quincy and Chatham, Massachusetts.
The story goes like this:
In February of 1952, one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast struck New England, damaging an oil tanker off the coast of Cape Cod and literally ripping it in half. On a small lifeboat faced with frigid temperatures and 70-foot high waves, four members of the Coast Guard set out to rescue the more than 30 stranded sailors trapped aboard the rapidly-sinking vessel.
Chris Pine more than proved himself as leading man material in J.J. Abrams‘ first Trek flick. Unfortunately, the man hasn’t been given the best of material to work with. Any Affleck is good Affleck in my book, so here’s hoping the story gives the two something compelling to work with.
THE FINEST HOURS will hit theaters sometime in the Fall of 2015.
