The names Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman generally evoke the images of giant robots, aliens, alternate universes, and final frontiers. The last thing you would expect would be a heartfelt drama about a man tasked with delivering $150,000 of his deceased father’s fortune to the sister he has never met. But that is what you get in the trailer for PEOPLE LIKE US.
The film is cowritten by Orci, Kurtzman, and Jody Lambert. Kurtzman also takes on directing duties. The film features Chris Pine and Elizabeth Banks as the hottest pair of siblings to ever grace the big screen. Jon Favreau, Michelle Pfeiffer and Olivia Wilde round out the cast.
For the first sixty seconds, I was very uncomfortable watching Pine and Banks have that awkward sexual chemistry, knowing that they are supposed to be brother and sister. But, then the film just begins to click. I actually would like to check this one out. Banks is incredibly hot and Chris Pine is definitely not allowing himself to be typecast.
PEOPLE LIKE US could easily be a treacly tearjerker like any other, but the movie still comes across as feeling fresh and original. I hope it does well.
PEOPLE LIKE US opens June 29th.
