Chris Kattan wants to hit the club again with Will Ferrell and it’s to do a sequel to 1998’s A Night at the Roxbury.
TMZ spotted Chris Kattan at LAX and asked the former SNL star if he’d be down for a sequel to the film and his response should make fans happy if they were clamoring to get Doug and Steve Butabi back together. He even pitches his personal idea for what the sequel should be.
He says that his character, Doug, would most likely be in prison at the beginning of the movie, and both brothers would struggle to try to fit into the younger club scene that they’re desperately holding onto despite their older age. Kattan also teased that there could be room for a long-lost third brother and, even though he and Will Ferrell aren’t in active conversations about doing a follow-up, he thinks the project would be really fun and the fans would enjoy it. He also points out that he believes Steve would be married to Molly Shannon’s character Emily Sanderson from the original film.
A Night at the Roxbury is based on the recurring sketch from Saturday Night Live called “The Roxbury Guys.” In the film, two dim-witted brothers dream of owning their own dance club or at least getting into the coolest and most exclusive club in town, The Roxbury. The film was heavily panned by critics, scoring a very rotten 9% on Rotten Tomatoes but, let’s face it, this wasn’t made for critics. On a $17 million budget, the film went on to gross $30.3 million and has since gone on to be a bit of a cult classic. The film also stars Mark McKinney and Colin Quinn.
