In AVENGERS: ENDGAME the God of Thunder, Thor, went through quite a dramatic change, reeling from his own failures and clearly very fragile after botching his takedown of Thanos. Dressed in sweat pants and donning sunglasses indoors, this puts him in the perfect position to whip out a guitar and start singing a soulful ballad that puts his emotions on his sleeves, and actor Chris Hemsworth took the time to do that by laying down a rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” while in costume.
The actor was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night promoting MEN IN BLACK: INTERNATIONAL when he debuted a never-before-seen video he took of himself dressed in Thor’s new look – which has been dubbed by the internet as “Fat Thor.” Hemsworth, underselling his singing voice and guitar playing, showed the video of him playing Cash’s melancholy take on the song “Hurt”, itself a cover of a Nine Inch Nails song from their second album, “The Downward Spiral”. “What else but Johnny Cash, ‘Hurt,’ the saddest song in the world,” Hemsworth said.

Taken in his trailer in between shooting, the video seems to be one of the few that was, surprisingly, not taken on the set surrounded by other Avengers actors. The other "Chris" actors of the MCU – like Chris Evans and Chris Pratt – have all been sharing videos and pictures they were definitely, certainly allowed to take while on the set. Hemsworth talked about this before showing the video, saying how they were told not to take pictures, but would do it anyway, "Especially when it was all the Avengers in the same room, it's like, "I'm not missing this opportunity."
Well, he also didn't waste an opportunity to show a new, sadder side of Thor, because him singing Johnny Cash in his Sunday cozy clothes is about a far away from where we first met the character are you can possibly get, and it's pretty amazing.
