The 74th Golden Globe Awards took place yesterday (check out a full list of the winners right here) and, as usual, there were plenty of opportunities for frustratingly brief interviews with all the stars on the red-carpet. It was there that MTV caught up with Chris Hemsworth and were able to ask him about several of his upcoming projects, including THOR: RAGNAROK, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and STAR TREK 4.
Principal photography on THOR: RAGNAROK wrapped up late last year and Chris Hemsworth has never been shy about giving plenty of praise to director Taika Waititi. Hemsworth told MTV that "it was one of the best experiences I've had, he's incredible. If you've seen any of his films, they give you an indication of the tone of what this is going to be, which is very different to what we've seen before." As someone who found the previous two THOR flicks to be a little lackluster, I'm pleased that Waititi was able to shake things up a bit and give us something different. Marvel also recently released the official synopsis for THOR: RAGNAROK, so make sure to check that out if you haven't already.
When asked about AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, which is due to kick off production fairly soon, Hemsworth admitted that he's yet to have seen a script for the film, which he says is "a little nerve-racking a couple weeks out, isn't it? But this is the way Marvel does it." AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and its currently untitled sequel are expected to film back-to-back and will almost certainly be the biggest project Marvel has tackled to date, both in terms of story as well as the sheer amount of talent involved, so it's no surprise that they're doing their best to keep things under wraps, even from their actors.
Before Chris Hemsworth was the God of Thunder, he was George Kirk, father to James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and briefly Captain of the U.S.S. Kelvin in J.J. Abrams' STAR TREK. Despite only being on screen for minutes and meeting his end soon after, Hemsworth's character struck a chord with fans and Abrams announced last year that Chris Hemsworth will (somehow) be returning for STAR TREK 4. The rebooted franchise's fourth film will see Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk crossing paths with "a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born: his father." Hemsworth couldn't say exactly how his character would be returning, but said that he's "spoken to J.J. [Abrams], and he has an amazing pitch on the whole thing."
THOR: RAGNAROK is due to hit theaters on November 3, 2017 with AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR following on May 4, 2018. STAR TREK 4 unfortunately doesn't have a release date just yet.
