I was and always shall be a huge fan of THE X-FILES. It bordered on obsession that was rarely matched until some shows in recent years. Every now and then, I revisit the old episodes and enjoy the hell out of them despite being incredibly dated technologically. I may have even been one of the few who enjoyed THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE and still hold out hope that we may get another mythology-based story featuring Mulder and Scully.
X-FILES creator Chris Carter has been under the radar for quite a long time but has recently emerged with new television series at Amazon (THE AFTER, about the Apocalypse) and a possible conspiracy based show over at AMC. I will be happy to see his style return to the tube, but where the hell is my new X-FILES movie?
According to Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are down for another adventure and it all remains with 20th Century Fox if they want to proceed. Carter says while THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE was forced to be a standalone movie due to a restricted budget, the third movie would address the lingering questions regarding the alien invasion that, in the show’s timeline, should have happened in December 2012. I know that comics and other tie-ins have addressed these stories, but nothing beats a big screen spectacle.
Guest stars in THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE included Billy Connolly, Xzibit, and Amanda Peet, but Carter has someone else in mind for a part in the third film, if it happens:
“Gillian Anderson worked with Simon Pegg on a movie and told me he was a big fan,” Carter said. “We actually thought about putting him in the second movie, but there was no part for him. I certainly would think about him if we were to go forward in any way.”
Simon Pegg in an X-FILES movie? Hell f*cking yes! I would see that in a heartbeat. Make it happen, Fox!
