Is there still hope for an "X-Files" reboot? Let's just say that 'I want to believe'.
"X-Files" fans have heard whispers and rumors on a reboot of the beloved cult sci-fi series or a possible new film for years, but now the truth is out there as Chris Carter has revealed that there's a very real chance that the series could see a return. In an inteview with Vulture Carter was asked if a reboot was in the cards, especially when considering that Dana Walden and Gary Newman (who were the heads of 20th Century Fox TV, which produced "The X-Files" during its run) were now in charge of the Fox network. This is what Carter had to say:
I’m very friendly with Gary and Dana. Dana and I basically cut our teeth at the same time. She was a publicist. It’s nice to go through your career with someone you have respect for and were in the trenches with. Dana and I sat in the same room during the first market testing of The X-Files. She was like a junior publicist, and I was this unproven producer. She was there at the beginning. So I owe her a lot. And certainly she and I have talked a lot about this.
So does this mean a reboot is happening? Carter states:
That’s just a way of saying there certainly have been conversations.
Perhaps these conversations have been taking place for a while. Carter, Walden, and Fox are no doubt aware that fans have been clamoring for more "X-Files", so why hasn't it happend yet? Carter goes on to add…
I would assume nothing.
Carter also shared that he's still close to star David Duchovny, giving fans the sense that the actor would also be on board to return for a new "X-Files" series. Let's hope they can make it happen.
