One of the highlights of KICK ASS was Hit Girl. As embodied by Chloe Moretz, she was a foul-mouthed little ass kicker who stole the movie from Aaron Johnson and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. Bringing her back for KICK ASS 2 was a foregone conclusion, especially with Moretz becoming such a hot commodity in films like HUGO and the upcoming remake of CARRIE.
But, with Hit Girl semi-retired in KICK ASS 2, what can we expect for the character now that she is trying to attend high school like any normal teen? At a recent awards show, Moretz shared this tidbit about the sequel.
“There’s going to get a bit more romance, a much more grown up Mindy Macready. Someone who’s questioning themself and whether they are a villain, assassin or a vigilante and a hero. So there’s a lot of tormented inner self, it’s interesting.”
I never really pondered the possibility of her becoming a villain, but that is definitely one of the more intriguing subplots rarely explored in superhero movies. Aside from SPIDER-MAN 3 and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, we rarely see that borderline between hero and bad guy. With KICK ASS, these characters are existing in a “real world” environment and are subject more to the stresses people would be under if forced to decide between good and evil. Count me intrigued.
KICK ASS 2, directed by Jeff Wadlow, opens in theaters on June 28, 2013.
