Earlier this year we heard that Chiwetel Ejiofor was up for a major role in Scott Derrickson's DOCTOR STRANGE, and now it's confirmed that Ejiofor will be playing Baron Mordo. The Baron and Doctor Strange are both taught by The Ancient One (who Tilda Swinton is in talks to play) and despite being a straight-up villain in the comics, it's said that the cinematic iteration of Mordo will not necessarily be villainous and that he may end up being a mixture of several characters from Doctor Strange's universe.
As per usual, Marvel seems to be doing a bang-up job of its casting. Ejiofor was apparently in the running to play a Bond villain, so perhaps the man is looking to lighten up his filmography a bit and have some fun. Either way, I'm not sure how the general populace is going to take to a Doctor Strange film, despite the mighty Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role. It should be interesting to see how it plays out, and what ties, if any, the film may have with the rest of the MCU.
DOCTOR STRANGE will open in theaters on November 4, 2016.
