Disney+ Day is here and they’re starting bright and early dropping news on their upcoming projects. Early drops include the time periods we will be seeing a new Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers movie and the live-action Pinocchio starring Tom Hanks.
Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers is expected in the spring of 2022 and it will star John Mulaney and Andy Samberg. Described as a comeback and not a reboot, you can see the Twitter post about the project below!
Also teased was the Fall 2022 release of the live-action Pinocchio, starring Tom Hanks and directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film also stars Cynthia Erivo, Luke Evans, and the voices of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Keegan-Michael Key, and Lorraine Bracco. You can check out the Pinocchio tweet below!
Chip N’ Dale Rescue Rangers will be directed by Akiva Schaffer and he describes the film as “meta, something self-referential, and cool.” The movie also won’t be an origin story, nor a detective agency story. Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, and Barry Schwartz wrote the latest draft of the script while David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are on board as producers. The film is said to be a mix of live-action/CGI.
Tom Hanks will be starring as Geppetto in the live-action/CGI animated musical fantasy film, Pinocchio, which is directed by Zemeckis from a script by the former and Chris Weitz. The film serves as a remake of the 1940 animated film of the same name which is itself based on the 1883 Italian book, “The Adventures of Pinocchio”, by Carlo Collodi.
